Smoke Alarm Safety

Available in English and Spanish

Half of home fire deaths happen when most people are asleep. The majority of these tragedies could be avoided by properly functioning smoke alarms.

You should install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside every sleeping area and on every level of your home.

Test your alarms at least once a month, change the batteries every six months and alarms over 10 years old need to be replaced.

When the smoke alarm sounds, get outside and stay outside. When you’re safe, call 911.

Smoke alarms are your family’s first line of defense.

Your local firefighters want you to be safe.
